Broken carb fuel mixture tip

Hey there,

I've gone and done it (twice).

I've found a few threads detailing what to do to remove the broken tip but the pictures have expired and words aren't my PXL_20250419_155743924.jpgforte (hence being in this position)

I can see the brass poking out into the main air passage, but trying to poke it backwards (as pictured) seems like an impossibility. Am I going about things the wrong way?

That's the way it needs to go but you may need to use penetrating fluid and other methods such as dunking the body in boiling water or using an ultrasonic cleaner etc to help release it.
If the tip can be seen protruding above the venturi floor then you should use a broader tipped tool to exert pressure squarely downward..

I've struggled before to get broken tips out. A couple of times to the point of giving up...when all of a sudden, they just fell out. Penetrating oil and heat should help for sure.

Thanks. I'll give it a go. I had reinstalled the screws and orings. Should i take all the o-rings back out before boiling?

Yes! I would remove everything so it's just the bare body.

Hey guys, I've had a go. I think i've got one out successfully but think I've completely screwed the other.

The first one needed boiling for a little while, then a sharp tap on an awl with a hammer.

The second time the awl must have been just behind the spot, and following a slightly over enthusiastic hit it seems like its made a new crater. I've tried to take a photo but it's very hard to see.

Any further suggestions? Or anyone with a spare carb body to sell?

Damage to the venturi floor doesn't really matter as long as the screws seat is untouched and doesn't leak when the mixture screw is full closed lightly.
The seat is on the underside and was formed when the mixture screw hole was machined and threaded etc so unless the awl broke through you should be ok.
Some minor leakage could be tolerated with the screw closed if the amount didn't exceed the requirements needed to achieve the correct idle mix.

Unfortunately the brass point of the mixture screw is still in place and the awl now has a preferential place to bed itself. I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to get it out

Bill, I think I have a set of bare carb bodies. They have the choke pickup tubes removed, they can be carefully taken out. I will find them and see what condition there in. Looking at your profile your in Bristol UK ?.

Hey thanks. I managed to get the bits of brass out of mine, but haven't yet determined if I buggered them irreparably.
