Carb Troubleshooting Help - 1980 GS1000L with CV Carbs and Vacuum Petcock

Greetings All! Just a few months ago I purchased a 1980 GS1000L (cruiser model) with CV carbs and a vacuum operated petcock/fuel valve. I had been really looking forward to getting back to basics with this motorcycle and its simplicity, versus the Triumph Daytona I had previously owned. The GS was not in running condition when I bought it, so I installed a new battery, started polishing it, and changed the oil and filter among other maintenance items. The cabs were removed for ultrasonic cleaning, replacement of all worn parts, and installation of a Six Sigma jet kit.

To my absolute frustration, the GS refuses to start regardless of choke application when fueled from the gas tank or a homemade fuel cell. I used the homemade fuel cell to rule out possible fuel starvation, thinking that the vacuum petcock/fuel value was the issue. I installed a brand new one including the gasket. Also, I verified spark present at each spark plug by removing them individually and grounding to the engine while engaging the starter. So the plugs and ignition system are ok . Finally, by spraying a modest amount of starter fluid on the filter pods the GS engine would roar to life at WOT and stay running until the fuel in the float bowls had been exhausted.

I have overhauled a number of carbs over the years in motorcycle that I've owned and installed jet kits (Factory and Dynajet) without any issues. This one has me stumped. I would appreciate help in troubleshooting my GS and getting it roadworthy. Thanks in advance.

After using an ultrasonic on my carbs and parts, found my float valve seats and needles still had a slight tackiness to them and would stick shut intermittently. Was only running consistently on 2 cylinders. Had to take them all out again and polish just a little. Ran great after that.

      Just an idea.
