    Fuel Leaking From Exhaust

    Hey Everyone,

    I am beating my head against the wall with my 1982 gs450t. It was having problems idling when cold, it would also stall when I put my choke on. So naturally I thought hey I probably have an issue with my fuel enrichment circuit. I pulled the carbs cleaned the crap out of everything and went a size up on my pilot jets per my local shops recommendation. Put the carbs back on choke works fantastic now it idles when cold with choke. However, my exhaust is now leaking fuel so somewhere it seems that there is way too much fuel getting in. Also, when I put my choke off my bike idles up and down (rpm wise). I checked my float heights so I don't think it is that. I also checked for air leaks around my manifold intake boots and nothing happened (used carb cleaner while idling) I am really getting to my wits end with this bike. I absolutely love this bike but it seems whenever I try to fix something it makes it worse! I would really appreciate if anyone had any input or ideas of why this may be happening.

      More info please, when does it leak the fuel, for how long, how much? Pics of leak on paper sack might give an indication. Is there any gas in the oil? You might have missed something when cleaning and reassemble of the carbs, like the rubber plug that sits over the pilot jet…just a thought. If all else fails start over from the beginning.

          tap lightly on bowls with a wrench. may have a stuck float. pull plugs and look for wet fuel soaked ones. the surging is probably caused by the fouled plug randomly firing and bringing that cylinder back to life..then it refouls and so the pattern repeats itself.

          I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

              Well I've encountered a problem that exhibited the same thing you've described. This also was on an 82 GS450, it would run good , not missfire start right up an\d it had fuel running out one muffler. And the winner was an o-ring on one of the float needle valve was shot so it simply by passed the needle and seat. Contact Nessism get the o-rings to overhaul both carbs. That fixed it in my case.
