Carb choke rail lever needed...

Working through the carbs on my 1982 GS1100G and I need to ask if anyone can help me out locating one part in particular, and another if it is required?

Part # 83 looks to be a guide for the choke cable that goes on after the spring and before the last lever for the choke plunger on the #4 carb. The PO "modified" this part to make the choke cable sort of work after the end of the cable came off and then fashioned something up with a rivet and some wire. It is not useable in it's current state. If anyone has this part I would greatly appreciate it! Says it was used on 42 assemblies

Part # 80 is a mystery to me, as I did not see this part at all. I'm not sure if it's really required or not. It's listed as a "cover" in the parts fiche. Is this maybe intended to keep the clutch cable from interfering with the throttle?? Do I really need it?? This part was exclusive to the '82-83 GS1100G,GL,GK.

Part number eighty on my GK has a shiny spot on it where something rubs against it. The bike is a (slow) work in progress so I don't know what rubs, probably a cable as you say. Without the shield I'm guessing constant throttle linkage movement would wear through the cable, and/or interfere with throttle operation.

Partnumber eighty three is a retainer for the cable end. I'll bet you could fabricate something if you can't find one of either of these parts.

I saw that last night... Linked to some old posts on here, but I got what you meant.

Nessism - Thanks for the links. I did find some other choke rail assemblies on eBay that were about the same cost. But was hoping to not spend $30 for that little piece!

Anybody have some parts laying around??

To add to what Ness said, part 80 is probably not needed. I just rebuilt my carbs and left that part off during reassembly. Then I realized it was there to "protect" sync adjustment screw from the clutch cable. But the cable doesn't actually touch the adjuster. Maybe in some situations it could?

Agreed on Part 80. The way I have it now without Part 83 installed could allow the choke cable to fall out of the notch on the last lever.

The PO actually cut off the curved part the choke cable runs through by the throttle cable mount, "shortened" the outer choke cable sleeve, squished a rivet tube on the end of the cable, and then mangled Part 80 so he could wrap some wire around it to hold the "new end" of the cable.

I already had to order a used choke cable that came with the cable mount plate on the top of the carbs - Part 25 - to put it back together.

I had seen your post, looked up the fiche, and thought, hmm, that part isn't shared with the GS1100E. But it is, Chuck Hahn contacted me because I'm donating a stash of 1100E carbs to him, and he thought I may have one (as I haven't sent the stuff to him yet). He set me straight. I had confused the part numbers. This is the correct PN 13413-49220, Partzilla doesn't list all the fitments, and I had looked at the part next to it. So I sort of gave up in confusion LOL.

This one secures the choke cable, the cable goes in that V, and the spring sandwiches it in place. The 2nd pic shows the cable installed.

Part number 80 is, indeed, not needed (most of the time), but I have seen one instance where it was. The purpose of that part is to keep the clutch cable away from the carb linkage, not neccessarily just the sync adjuster. My son was "execising" his 650 and had the cable get caught, keeping the throttle WIDE OPEN. He was on a narrow 2-lane road and near an intersection, so he hit the kill switch, pulled the clutch and coasted around the corner to a wide spot on the side road.

I have since fabricated a retainer out of a coat hanger wire to hold the cable closer to the engine so it does not get caught in the carb linkage. Simple, cheap and works just as well.

It does have a wire holder for the clutch cable up at the valve cover that seems to hold it out of the way.
