The answer to “do the carbs need cleaned?” is nearly always YES, especially if you have a rusty tank.
BS(CV) carb cleaning /. Rebuilding tutorial (this one by Ed Ness) and a lot more info found on BikeCliffs Website.
bigger hose is fuel, smaller one is vacuum. The corresponding nipples on the petcock are sized accordingly.

We should be seeing a fuel petcock somewhere there on bottom of the tank.
THe vacuum line is the smaller of the two goes on the smaller of the two on the petcock.
The larger is the fuel line.
Unless it is the drain line for the fuel guage sender. (I think the 650 has such. but 650 is the model with the most difference from all the others.)

      Had 650G & 850G. GK since 2005. BOTM GK 2024 June, 850G 2015 Sept

Hard to tell from your photo. Fuel line is middle of carb rack. There are two vent hoses.

Suzuki GS motorcycles maintenance and information (GS850GT)

1A) (NEW) Trying to diagnose running problems on a bike with an unknown maintenance history. Common maintenance items like clean carbs, properly adjusted valves, no air leaks in the intake system (airbox, carb boots), a clean gas tank (no rust), and a properly functioning petcock are 100% mandatory for the bike to run properly.

Since Robertbarr has retired, I'm picking up this valuable service. Mikuni BS/CV Kits Includes - 4 Pilot Screw O-rings - 4 Float Valve O-rings - 4 Choke Plunger Cap O-rings - 12 Transfer Tube and Vent Tee O-rings - 4 Drain Screw O-rings These kits are for the common BS32/34/36 four cylinder bike sets. I don't have experience
