Running rough and high idle after winter storage

Hopefully someone can give me a few pointers. Just started my 81 GS1000L after winter storage (carbs were dry) and the engine is reving @3K and will not drop back and is difficult to start..It was running normal prior to storage.

I did replace the OEM handle bars with a low type over the winter but I can't see any cable binding and throttle/cable movement seems normal. I plan on replacing the cable with a shorter version as soon as I find one.The choke cable/linkage also appears normal. What have I done wrong oram I overlooking something. This bike always started normal with full choke so I don't really know where to start.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated !!

My guess is either your throttle cable is binding or the intake boot O-rings are leaking. You might want to check out these two things.

      Running rough

As I indicated all trottle movement is perfectly normal...there are no binds in the cable and I kink of doubt that the boots are the issue as it was fine prior to spending the winter on the side stand. Is it possible that a float is stuck or something like that. I really don't want to rip tghose carbs off if I don't have to

Did you stabilize the gas? Did you try fresh gas?

Clean the carbs, change all the O-rings, change the intake boot O-rings, vacuum sync the carbs. While the carbs are off, adjust the valves. Your bike will love you for the attention.
