    Stainless Hardware

So, I was planning on heading down to ACE to acquire replacement hardware for my carbs. I've already got the Z1 allen head kit, and have picked up the bolts to do the oil pan in stainless allens as well, so I thought I might stick with the theme. Eventually the motor and carbs will be a combination of different sheens of black, so the stainless bits will really stand-out then.

ACE wanted anywhere from $1.50 to $2.00 per bolt. Since I'm replacing bowl, top, front rail, and rear rail hardware, I was looking at over $100 to get them all. Screw that noise! I found an online place that sells in bulk, so I ordered the three sizes I needed, and washers, all in stainless. Ended up paying about $30, shipped. Didn't realize Bolt Depot had metric stuff down towards the bottom, or I might have gone that way.

Anyways, the point of this post: I ordered 100 M5x14 bolts, 100 M5x12 bolts, and 50 M6x15 bolts, and 100 M5 flat washers. I should have enough left over to make two complete carb hardware kits, for a set of Mikuni BS34SS carbs. Can't guarantee compatibility with other carbs, but it should be similar. First two responses to this post get to pick these kits up for the cost of shipping. I've had some great experiences with other members (thanks again Basscliff!) sending me parts for free in times of need, so I thought I'd pay it back. I'm not going to do anything with these bolts, anyways. Half the bolts have completely smooth sides, and the other half have the sorta knurled edges. Not that you'll be able to tell while you're scooting down the road. Another note, I sized the bolts to that the ends would sit flush with the carb bodies, not sticking up through the holes like stock. Looks a little smoother, to me.

Upon further calculation, I'll only be able to provide washers for one set of bolts. So, first responder will get the washers. Sorry #2, you're on your own.

This will be cross posted in the for-sale section as well.

In most cities there is at least one fastener place, similar to Fastenall but privately owned, with a lot more selection and way better prices. The one I found here doesn't charge any more for metric stuff, they have had everything in stock so far.

Yeah, I didn't feel like looking anything up, and I really did want to give something back to the GS community anyways. I'll have to hunt around for something next time I'm in need of a bolt or two. I eventually want to replace every feasible fastener with a stainless allen bolt. Then my bike tool kit can consist of just a few allen wrenches. Plus, I like the look.

There is a few vendors on ebay who deal this stuff. Im not real sure of prices in different areas for this various stuff but I've had great success at my local ACE.
Plus the prices dont seem to out of range with others.

But ordering em online for around the same price, without hunting through little bens and drawers sounds good to.

McMaster-Carr is the complete source for your plant with over 595,000 products. 98% of products ordered ship from stock and deliver same or next day.

There's a whole lot of neat stuff on there. I should also mention, they ship quickly, and only charged $5.95 for ground, whereas most others are $7.95. Just have to buy in bulk. www.boltdepot.com also has stuff, and you can buy by the piece.

I just ordered from Bolt Depot at noon and I get a notice by 2:00 PM they have shipped the order.

Shipping was a little high but it was 5 lbs of SS bolts

Nice! I'm planning on replacing as many of the OE bolts on my bike as possible. I'll probably use them for any other bolt needs I have, good to know they're quick. If I ever need anything in bulk though, McMaster Carr is the place to be.

What are you working on? What's getting shiny new allen bolts? Pics!

I think I could swing that. Are you just looking for the carb hardware, or the whole engine? Hell, I'll just post both.

I have 3+1=4 sets of BST36SS's and only one set will remain parts carbs.

Apparently will add 10 hp to your GS1100 over stock 34mm CV's
