The problem is, I can sometimes smell exhaust fumes, which get into the large pocket of calm air behind the fairing. This is a safety issue, as there is no safe level of carbon monoxide. Even small exposures are cumulative.
The problem seems to be caused by the fact the mufflers end right under the large Vetter panniers. The fumes then eddy up and into the calm air.The problem is evident only with the panniers and lowers installed. I have made sure the upper gaskets are tight and aren't leaking.
Here is my question: I propose to get a couple of 6 inch long 1 inch outside diameter light exhaust pipe connectors, and press fit them gently into the stock exhaust openings. This will move the exit point of the exhaust gases back, and I think. prevent them eddying into the calm air. I can play with length until it prevents the fumes.
Will this cause any problems with the exhaust system? Back pressure, jetting etc?
