Carb Dip and Pilot Jet Plug

Firstly:

I tried my local automotive store, Canadian Tire, and Princess Auto - no carb dip. Can I use solvent? Is there a better "alternative"?

Secondly:

My pilot jet plug is a little worn and is showing cracks - but not cracks all the way through... just "wear lines"... it is not "snug" in the pilot jet hole (but I don't know if this is normal or not) - does the pilot jet plug need to be replaced?

Carb Cleaner

As far as the carb dip goes, you can go to any auto supply store that carries kleen-flo products (any Uni-Select or NAPA store will do) and order a 4L can of Kleen-Flo part #651 Carb Cleaner. Regular price is $32.90 Canadian. The only drawback is it does not come in a regular 1 gallon can with the dipping tray.

Make sure you use it outside, or in a well ventilated area since this stuff is STINKY!

Someone else who is more knowledgeable should be able to answer you pilot jet plug question. I would likely replace it, I believe another GSR member sells them.

The pilot jet plugs are available at the usual parts vendors. Go to cycleorings.com for o-ring kits. That's the one run by a member here.

Oh yeah, the plugs are cheap. Go ahead and replace 'em. New ones are so snug in the hole you'll have some difficulty seating them. The float bowl will probably hit the plug before the bowl seats against the mounting flange. Use the bowl mounting screws to draw it down the last 1.2 mm when installing the bowl.

Welcome to Newfoundland... I tried Canadian Tire, Automotive Supplies, Colonial Garage, Princess Auto, Janitorial Services Inc, Browne's, Carquest, AND NAPA... no one carries any form of carb dip.

That said, NAPA can get me in 4 litres of Hydroseal for $50.00 and it will be here in 7-10 days. I ordered it and will soon be the most popular carb cleaning guy on the east cost of Newfoundland. If anyone in St. John's or surrounding needs to dip their carbs... or pistons... or whatever... in 7-10 days I am your man.
