1982 GS1100E carb line question
I saw in earlier posts that if running pods the two vent tubes can be removed. No worries. But there is also a tube in front of the carbs that I suppose hooks to the tank for vacuum. Does it? If so I would think I can just block it off, as I'll be using a Pingel petcock that is gravity fed. Anybody?Tags: None -
Vacuum port
You'll want to cap it for sure since the Pingel you'll be using isn't a vacuum type of petcock. (I think they make one but that's not the one you'll end up with.)
P.S. If you were running a stock petcock, that's where the tube from the carb would connect.Last edited by chuckycheese; 06-09-2010, 02:53 PM.1980 GS1100E....Number 15!

Saw the answer
Hey Chucky, thanks for the post. As I was looking at the carbs before putting them on I saw that that tube is a straight shot into the venturi area. Blocked it and siliconed it to be sure. The vent tubes I just removed, but I'm thinking of blocking those too, since I don't know what they're venting and I don't want dirt etc. getting pulled into them.Comment

Yeah, you don't want to block the vent tubes as if you do, you wont be getting any fuel into the float bowls. You need the vents to vent the air that was in your float bowls to allow more fuel in.
The pressure of gravity would not be able to overcome the pressure required to 'squash' the air inside the float bowls to allow more fuel in.
If you were worried about contaminants the run small lines pointing down. This shoudl stop moisture and grit getting in. Probably not stricktly legal really as you would be venting gas to air which is a big no no.Comment
