Overheated?

So, got some new-to-me jets, needle jets and other assorted goodies from Bill (chef) stuck them in my freshly dipped and rinsed carbs, set the fuel mix screws to 2.5 turns out, put them on the bike, primed her and voila! Fires right up, revs beautifully. Took her out for 2 or 3 awesome miles but hit a traffic jam on the way back to my house. Bad car accident that kept me in traffic for about 10 minutes. In fact, I was stuck putting 10 meters or so at a time until I turned in to my driveway.

In the driveway, she acted lean, hangs when you rev, however, will idle nicely at 1100 or so. Did she just overheat and go a little lean? it was 101 degrees Fahrenheit out there today, but I guess it was mostly the lack of wind.

stock airbox, removed the stack of washers and replaced it with stock spacers. stock jetting, Bill gave me 110's for #1 and 4, and 112.5 for #2 and 3. Stock exhaust as well, stock everything! Boots are used but in good condition.

I shut her off and will give her a try in the morning.

Can't answer that, but if you are going to be stuck on an air cooled bike in hot weather, you need to cut it off, or pull over to the side until traffic starts moving. Inching along in traffic just makes it worse. My first experience with an overheated motor resulted in it smoking in 30 degree weather in a traffic jamb. I think think that only happens if you are dumb enough, like I was, to buy carburetors from Wired George.

I doubt you overheated it to the point of doing any damage, maybe got it hot enough that it was running a little differently. It will probably be fine, but yeah, shutting it off when you can't move for more than a few minutes is a good idea, as is turning off and going a different route. These engines did not earn the bulletproof name by being easy to overheat.

They are well oiled.

You know it's overheated when oil starts seeping past the seals

Other than that, it's just hot

How'd it work after you cooled it off?

He said he had a hanging idle at 3k when hot.
I told him it sounded like a sync problem. It could also be an intake leak he mentioned he had from the boots.

I doubt you got the motor hot enough to damage it...

Well, maybe not overheated, I think just hot enough. To make it run funny. Will give it a go in a bit.
