What fuel screw??? GS850 GL

I have been reading everything I can on carb rebuild for gs850, but I still keep seeing threads about people adjusting fuel screws on the bottom of the carb and air screws on the top----the only fuel screws on my carbs are just like in the cv rebuild series (i.e.the fuel bowl drain screws) only mixture screws I have are the air screws on top that are supposed to be
1 1/2 turns from lightly seated -correct?--just needed some clarification-thanks

Right where the carbs go into the intake (top) there is a cap with a small hole in it. You need to drill it out and yank it out with a screw. Don't drill the top of the idle mixture screw though.

It's not really an "air screw", it's an "idle mixture adjustment screw" because it actually controls a mixture, not just air.

Here is where they are, as Chef suggested, they might be under caps.


There is nothing cast in stone that says they should be at 1 1/2 turns, though. Most of us will set them about 3 turns out as a starting point, then tweak them until the engine will idle at its highest speed, which means the mixture is best. Yours might end up back at 1 1/2 turns. Mine are closer to 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 turns out..

In '80 they switched to carbs with only one screw. Lotsa folks around here have the older style, with more adjusting screws.

And his signature says he has an '82, so that's what he is seeing, just one screw (per carb).

thanks guys--i figured they must be talking about earlier models or different carbs
