    Carb issues... repalcement air screw

    Looks like the Carb cleaning is not going as well as planned.

    The prior owner had the wrong pilot jetting and my air screws were also jammed in real tight. I was able to extract the air screw from Carb #1 but #2 was NOT happy. I needed to dremel it out best I could. I've got bits of brass still inside there as well as the spring, washer and o-ring.

    I'm guessing that I might need to have the hole re-threaded and hope the spring pops out.

    Carbs #3 and #4 have the air screws in pretty tight too. I've managed to back them both out a bit but I'm scared to keep going. Oil hasn't freed them any and heating the carbs with a hair blower or even pocket torch didn't seem to help either.

    Any suggestions on where I take things from here? Should I be looking for a machinist or hang my head low and see if a local mechanic can fix the mess I'm in?

    Also, I've found sites that carry pilot jets but I don't see any part listings for thre air screw assemblies. I definitely need to replace the one I dremeled but it wouldn't be bad to just replace all four at this point. Any ideas on how to source that?

      Those mixture screw are available in the carb repair kits.. Get some PB Blaster and let the screws soak.
      IF you screwed the threads for the mix screw look for a replacement carb body

          On another post (with a stuck airscrew), one member suggested sticking carbs in 250 degree oven for a while. The carb bodies expand more than the brass screws- maybe just enough to let them (at least for #3 and #4) come out. Wear gloves! and use a really good fit screwdriver.

              Yep, rad that, no luck though. Tried both the hair blower and butane torch methods. Got the PB blaster and let it soak too (nothing seemed to work on these little buggers). I dremeled two out and will have to see if the threads can be fixed somehow. There still seems to be brass clung to the sides of the shaft there, so hopefully it can be re-thread and salvaged. I was careful not to go too deep and was able to pry out the springs and washers with a paper clip so hopefully if a re-thread works I'd still get a good hold there.

              Looks like the air screws are usually referred to as idle mixture screws on some of the websites. I didn't find the part number in the manual but one site online had this number 48-5011

              If the carb bodies need to be replaced I'll have to look for sourced out there. So far I haven't found any for the 49220 (GS1100EZ) I've got though.

                  wirelessguy, IIRC those carbs fit all 1100 16 valves. So you could probably look for 80, 81, 82, 83 1100E and 83 1100ES. The 83s, however, have black carbs. I picked up a set for ~$100 delivered, but they needed to be rebuilt.
                  Hopefully you can get those fixed up instead.

                      Check Ebay for replacement carbs.
                      I can get those screws out for you and probably source you a #2 carb.
