    78 GS1000E Petcock

    The petcock on my bike is all froze up, I was looking to buy a new OEM one but they are $250+. Are they any good to rebuild or would I be better off to get an aftermarket one? If I would go the aftermarket one and it doesn't have the vacumn port what do you do with the vacumn like that is connected to this one?

    I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

      I thought you had possibly gone to an incorrect page in a parts fiche, so I checked Alphasports $347!!!

      Apparently, they are discontinued

      I bought a new one 2 years ago for $65

      I would recommend carefully removing the 2 small screws that hold the face plate on, then wrestling the lever free

      Clean the lever body and the petcock body

      Replace the O ring and the rubber disc (parts #2 and #3 on the fiche)

      Reassemble and see if that doesn't cure your problem

        The petcock from a kawasaki sherpa KLR250 is a direct bolt-on. I have one on my '78 1000. Here is a thread:
