    GS 850 CV carb strip problems.

    I am in the process of stripping the CV carbs on my GS850 1982.

    I have followed the carb rebuild instructions closely.

    I have a problem with the air screws.

    Steps 26,27,28,29 show the airscrew removal process.
    No problems........so far.

    When I tried to "lightly seat" the air screws so that I could record the amount of turns required, on the install, I found that they seemed to be wound in all the way???????

    I unscrewed them (so as not to break the tips) to discover that the spring on carb 2 air screw was missing and there apears to be no washers or O rings on any of the air screws.

    Have I missed something or could it be that the little washers and O rings are still in the hole?

    Could the bike ever have run at all with these bits "missing"?

    I look forward to the "carb men" giving me some advice please.

      The spring, washer, and O-ring are commonly down in the tunnel after you remove the screw. You wouldn't be the first person to miss them there - assuming some previously owner didn't go and loose them that is. As far as how many turns the screws were open, it doesn't matter since you should adjust them until your bike runs best.

          Ed's right, they often stay down that little hole. Use care getting them out, they will disappear right before your eyes...

          I use a small dia wire to fish them out with. Don't lose those little washers!! Hard to replace those...

              Last time i took the idle screw out doing a teardown, I lost one of the o-rings and spent an hour hunting for it. Found it thankfully.

                  The easiest way I have found to remove those pesky little critters is to use a drywall screw.
                  Just stick it in turn it a few degrees, it will capture at least the washer.
                  Further attempts will remove the remaining items with equal ease.

                      Yes, have found all fourwashers and O rings.
