After my class ended last night I gathered up my traveling tool box and paid a little visit to my GS in the school parking deck.
I put it on prime for 10 seconds, hit the button. It turned over instantly but died as soon as I let go of the starter button.
Then I tried Duanage's advice about blowing into the carb vent tubes. I hit the button and it roared to life and was idling smoothly!!
Of course being that last night it was snowing I couldn't go for a ride but it was great to hear it run. Also perfect timing as I entered into a campus motorcycle show this weekend. While my GS isn't a beauty queen there were only two other entries so I'm guaranteed at least 3rd place, which is still a cash prize

Thanks for all the advice guys, I figured it was some stupid simple problem.
