    '80 GS850 Missing Carbs - What's compatible?

Hi I searched but couldn't find the answer...

Just bought a basketcase 1980 GS850 (+ a second '80 frame/motor) that were both missing the carbs. Good news is I got both for $100. Intention is to bob/streetfight it.

    Are all GS850 carbs interchangeable?

If not what am I looking for besides a "1980 GS850 carb bank"? Any particular carb model/make/style number?

Are any year's carbs more desireable than others?

Thanks for your help. I'm really excited to have found this website which will be a HUGE help in this project.

1980-1 GS850 are the only ones that are a direct fit. other models may work if you are willing to re-jet/change needles. if you are planning on mods being done to the intake/exhaust systems; you will have to rejet it.

My guess is '82 - '83 850 carbs would be fine too, although the choke cable may be different.

        Thanks rustydog and nessism...

By saying '80-81 were "direct fit", does that mean there's "physical" differences such as mounting flanges, linkage? Such that I would have difficulty getting the newer carbs to mount up?

To ask in a more direct fashion - will the newer carbs mate/bolt up properly? I guess another approach is are all heads/intakes the same?

I'm just trying to avoid buying some carbs via internet and going oh XXXX! these won't even mate up

In all likelihood, I will be changing the intake/exhaust so I would need to rejet/needle anyways. Good heads up on choke cable...

The 82-83 choke linkage is different, although you might be able to make them work as well.

          ***edit***
direct fit... they are identical, no modifications required when fitting. (1980 and 1981 used the same carbs)

the 1982-up 850's are physically the same except for the choke linkage.

the '79 850 head is different. it used VM series carbs.

1980- up used BS series carbs.
