Recomendation for 4-1 Performance Exhaust for GS850G??

I'm looking to get a new Header and Muffler system for my 1980 GS850G. The current stinger insert is rusted out down near the front end, and won't hold any packing any longer, and I also suspect that the flow isn't what it should be, possibly having too much "open" and not enough or the proper backpressure. I believe the current setup is an OLD Kerker, but I'm not completely sure. (attached a pic for reference)

Anyhow, if you could recommend a good system that works, I'd appreciate it. Would like to get the exhaust setup correctly before I begin the final phase of my jetting adjustments.

    Thanks!

V&H and Mac are the only readily available choices in the US. BTW, this is a common topic with lots of identical threads in the archives.

I did a search (GS850 + Exhaust + Header) and didn't really find any recommendations... What would you recommend I search on??

(by the way... I'm sneaking on here while at work, so I didn't have hours to wade through all the posts... just looking for a quick, accurate answer... )

Here is a pic of a new Vance and Hines pipe we put on an 850. It fit well, was easy to install, sounded great and looks great in my opinion.

Motad works well on the 850. I don't know if you can get them over there though (but they are the 4-1 of choice for UK 850s).

                Hi,

I helped chef1366 install that V&H unit. I was impressed with the exhaust. It bolted right up (with a little persuasion), you get to keep the center stand, and it's not in the way of an oil change at all. I think I'll save my gig money and get one for my bike too. But I'm going to keep my airbox.

                Thank you for your indulgence,

Thanks for the tips, guys... I was thinking V&H, so it looks like that's where I'll look first.

Here is what the inside of mine currently looks like... This can't be helping it run any better!

They drag too; trust me. The Kerker, RC Eng, V&H and even the Yosh Street header will drag in right handers.

                          Hi,

I tend to agree with Mr. tkent02. This V&H unit looked like it had plenty of clearance. I did hear Zeke talking about lowering his bike so he might have an issue. But with normal suspension there shouldn't be any trouble turning right. I suppose there is a limit though.

That's a MAC pipe baffle. There are still replacements offered for them...as well as the Kerker design they ripped off/bought whatever. Cycle Recycle sells them on their site last I checked. Kerker is now a SuperTrapp property, but I think before they bought them MaC snapped up rights to the old pipes or something.

I dragged my centerstand before the Kerker header.
