box vs pod

I'm putting together an 81 gs 1000 G and the guy who i bought it from gave me an air box for it. I had a 81 750 which had an air box then the air filter was under the seat... I haven't seen anything regarding the part under the seat. Is there something that goes under the seat?

So in this confusion I thought maybe I'd go with pod filters for a cooler look, but was wondering if thats a good idea. I have to jet the carbs anyway cause the bike is running lean. I know i'll need some extra guidance on that as well. Thanks for the comments!

If the G box is anything like my E, it's a two peice box. Sounds like you might be missing a part.
Have to checked the parts fiche?
Might give ya a better idea as to what its supposed to look like.

Your bike is running lean it's because you're missing part of the airbox.

The G has a one piece box - nothing like the E (E is also similar to the 81 750):

And I wouldn't pfaff with pods. The standard box works.

Yup, similar to my 82 850.
Perhaps he has no filter. Which would also make it run lean.
