    Miserable fuel gauge sender

I disassembled my tank a couple of days ago for a cleaning and I'm stuck with the reassembly. I can't figure out how to get the miserable fuel gauge sender back into the tank. The metal box just barely fits through the hole and the float arm keeps banging into the inside of the tank when I try to rotate the sender into position. Is there some kind of trick to this thing, or do I just use brute force and ignorance or do I cut the arm off and give up? It is sunny and warm today (finally) so I want to ride.

I think I just answered my own question. I just kept wiggling, twisting and pushing gently until the sender popped in to the tank. I have no idea exactly what I did, but it did not require brute force.

I was concerned about the end of the metal rod scratching the inside of the tank but did not hear a lot of scraping when the sender went in.
