I put on a new Vance & Hines megaphone on my bike today. My question is how to best store my old pipes. Should I be coating them with anything after cleaning them up? They are the original pipes and in good shape but they were getting some pin holes/rust so I wanted to keep them nice. Here is a pic of the new exhaust, it sounds awesome!

Wax them every 6 months and keep them in a dry enviroment. That should work.

Some people will spray oil down the inside of the pipes and baffles, makes sense and can't hurt. I've seen a set of stock pipes that were stored for 32 years like that and they looked new. Pipes look great Trevor, can't wait to hear them. How's she running?Comment

Crazy thought here but if there is already some rust how about plugging the ends and filling them with evapo rust for a few days before flushing, drying, and oiling?
Another thought but...did you rejet when installing the new pipe? Even if it runs decently the engine could run lean, which means hot, if you didn't.Ed

Ed has a good idea. Perhaps some vinegar inside soaked for a few hours followed with a rinsing and oiling.
After thorough drying, wax the outside and place them in a double garment bag and suck the air out and add a bag of desiccant like we use for ammo.
