I am rebuilding the carbs on my 78 gs750 and 2 of my carb bowls have a built in rubber ring around the threads for the bowl plug. The third bowl does not have any rubber, but it doesn't look like it ever did. I have not tore into the fourth yet. Is this OK?

The plugs themselves have an oring that I am replacing, but this is part of the bowl itself. it does not look like anything that I could remove or replace. Also, I found a set of four carbs on Craig's list that were apart, but none of them have this rubber seal built into the bowl either.Comment

That seal is not part of the float bowl, it is a separate o-ring as Chuck has linked to you the details of it.Comment

It's always possible someone has modified the float bowl to accept a different seal, VERY unlikely, but still possible. A more likely scenario is someone might have glued it to the bowl.Comment

I will try to get pics tonight and post tomorrow. It seemed odd to me that this seal was there. It is not the bowl plug seal. They were there too. Because of these mystery seals I did not dip my bowls for fear of ruining these seals. Oh well, hopefully the pics will help.

Mystery Solved!
The mystery is solved! Once I knew that the rubber seal was not supposed to be there, I pryed on it a bit and it came out. It appears to be an old oring that was smashed into the depression in the bowl. Because this was the first bowl I took apart it looked like it belonged there.
