I have a 1981 GS450TX that needs new carbs (old ones are missing importand parts and I cant find them on the internet) theye is a guy that has a set he will sell me but they are for a 82-88 engine. Does anyone know if they will still work on my 81?

Hmmm that doesn't sound quite right Scott, as in what the seller is saying.
The '80 - 82 models are identical, then they had a dramatic change in '83.
Given that GS500 carbs slot straight onto a GS450 I'd say the '83's will fit just fine, but you'll need to refer to '83 and onwards parts fiche's etc. I assume the jetting would be ok stock if you have stock exhaust and air filter setup, but it would be worth verifying after installation just in case.
