1979 GS1000L Carb ?'s

The beast lives !!!

The carbs are a little leaky after 4 yrs of slumber, so I thought that they might need to be cleaned up again.
I believe the whole bike is stock.
So here's my questions:

1. Once again, I am hunting for a good diagram of my crabs. A whole repair manual would be better, but I need a carb view NOW.
NOT a view of 1980 carbs...They had screws on side of carbs? Mine are underneath, engine side.
Mine is a 79 GS 1000 L. I believe the 80 carbs are different, yes?

2. And... During cleaning, I lost the springs on 3 of the idle mixture screws. Any suggestions of where I can get those? or a part number ? or a exploded view? ( see #1 above).
I thought I found a 79 carb diagram, but there are no mixture screws anywhere in that diagram.

Get an O-ring kit for both the carbs and the intake pipe boots at cycleorings.com

2. The 79 has VM carbs, the 80 has BS carbs

3. If you're referring to the pilot fuel screws (which I think you are) they don't show on the diagram because they are preset at the factory and never needed adjustment per the EPA. For your springs ,see part 20 for the pilot air screw spring

Be careful using pilot air screw springs in the pilot fuel screw hole, the springs are slightly larger and can get stuck down the hole. I phoned up 'Lee Springs Ltd'. http://www.leespring.com/uk_index.asp?CountryCode=011 they have a place in UK and USA. I gave them the dimensions and ordered up the minimum order (5 if I remember). The part number I used was CI 012DE 05S They fit perfect but to be honest maybe not quite strong enough, used 2 and all is fine. If you call the sales guy and ask for heavier ones I think he should get the perfect ones
Just incase the dimensions I measured are:-

OD 4mm
ID 3mm
length 13mm fully extended
length 7mm fully compressed
wire D 0.5mm ish...hard to measure

And YES, I got one of the new springs stock in the hole. Seems a big (2" long or more) safety pin (diaper pin) makes a great pick !!! Just bend the sharp point with a needle nose start pickin' !

The manual covers all the 1000 chain drives, you're looking at the wrong manual
