What GS did these exhaust systems come from?

Anyone know what model GS these exhausts are from? The parts are imprinted GS110X so I assume that means GS1100. Since these systems are black I think that means 1983. The parts fishe for the 1983 GS1100E shows a heat shield but their is neither the shield nor a boss to bolt one too. Is the fishe wrong by chance? The Katana model pipes don't have a heat shield, but not sure if these could be Katana pipes.

    Any advice appreicated.

83 1100ED/ES had black chrome pipes as well.

Also some of the 700/750s did as well I believe as did the 1150. I cannot recall how the beauty shield attached though...

If they're the same as the 1150 pipes, the heat shield clamps on. There is no stud on the pipes themselves.

There is a set of supposedly GS1100ED pipes on ebay but they look slightly different...http://www.ebay.com/itm/290574342226...#ht_2913wt_889

The seem to have bolt on exhaust hanger brackets (these ones are welded), plus they have the heat shields.

Hummm... could it be you have a wee bit of gold mine there?

Looks like the same numbers on the pipes, no heat shields and welded on muffler brackets.

The '83 GS1100E has a 4 bolt on heat shield.

Yeah I wasn't sure which was which, just that that era some had black pipes.

                        Ed,

I can check numbers later today. I have two sets of '83 pipes which both have two mount points for heat shields on each side. The Kat pipes which, as pointed out, do not have heat shields. As far as I know my Kat pipes are original and complete.

                        Thanks,

                          Thanks Joe,

I'm curious to learn if your pipes have any kind of boss for bolting on a heat shield. The parts fishe suggests a boss for the rear heat shield attachment point. Also curious to learn how the numbers on the pipes compare to those of Eric's and my pipes.

                            Ed,

Here are a few pics that may help. Sorry for the quality, the pipes are stored on a shelf above my garage door and I had to shine a flashlight on them to get decent pics.

                            Katana left exhaust:

                            '83 GS1100E original exhaust:

                            '83 GS1100E 'new' exhaust:

'83 GS1100E original rear heat shield boss:

'83 GS1100E 'new' heat shield and bosses:

It looks like all the mufflers have the same number stamped on them. My guess would be that they use the same muffler and attach or do not attach bosses for heat shields depending on the application. Let me know if there's anything else I can verify to help.

                            Thanks,

                              So Eric,

Do your exhausts have heat shield bosses welded to the pipes? Maybe that's the only difference between the regular 1100E pipes and the Katana?

Thanks for the help Joe. Since these exhaust systems I have do NOT have any heat shield bosses, do you think they are most likely from a Katana?
