    Bending floats on a '78 GS400?

I'm trying to resurrect a 1978 GS400. It's the first real mechanical project I've ever attempted -- so my learning curve is steep.

I cleaned the carbs and replaced the o-rings. One of the float needles was missing so I bought one from a forum member here. It is very slightly longer than the original one, so the float doesn't really actuate. Can I bend that plate on the float where the springy end of the float needle hits to make up for the fact that the needle is too long?

    Thanks for your help.

You can bend the part of the float that actuates the float valve as that's how you adjust the float height.

Get the Clymer and Haynes manuals from BassCliff's site and they'll both demonstrate how to adjust the float height which is what you're affectively doing.
