Air box mod to make louder

Has anyone done any mods to make the stock air box louder? I am sick of this quiet bike. I do not wanna drill the exhaust either. Thanks!

You know, I had the same thought. I actually did that back in the day, but the clothes pins kept falling out.
bakirkwold, if you did that you would screw up your jetting and it would not run right until you blocked up the hole(s) or spent countless hours attempting to dial in the jetting.
The best thing to do is either buy a louder bike or put a pipe, pods and a stage 3 jet kit in it, then spend countless hours doing plug chops.

Why? you start drilling or modifying the air box can lead into a bunch of unwanted problems. As for the exhaust, just put an aftermarket one on, then rejet the carbs.

If you want more intake noise, remove the airbox, install pods.

If you want even more noise, change to a louder exhaust system.

If even that is not enough, just take off the mufflers and run straight pipes.

Although you can get a little more noise with the pods, I don't think it will be loud enough to notice, once you get up to speed.

If you do choose to go the "loud" route, please let us know your general location. I would not want to offend your neighbors with my quiet bikes.

If you want sound effects, change the pipe. Straight pipes and other chop jobs are the stuff of evil. A good aftermarket pipe, however, may give you the sound you like without (a) driving you insane with jetting issues; and (b) irritating all your neighbors, other people on the road, etc.

My bike came with the VH 4-1, so I didn't have any comparison between it and stock. I have run across bikes with quieter exhausts, probably closer to the stock 4-2 sound. They seem weird to me, probably because my ear is trained to what I started with.

I like the throatier sound from the 4-1, but it's not the obnoxious WHOMP WHOMP WHOMP that the HD crowd needs to compensate for the whimpering sounds and emitted from their ~other pipes~.

My current ride has a Kerker 4 into 1 and K&N pods. I have the baffle packed with fiberglass (it was readily available when I needed it) and I measured 90dB at 15 feet at 5000 rpm. Not "your neighbors are going to kill you" loud, but a nice throaty sound without being raspy. I like it, but you will also need a DynoJet Stage 3 kit or equivalent to make it run properly. And some patience, as tuning is required for any intake/exhaust mods.

I'm happy with the level of noise from my custom Tranzac and K&N pods... nice and rorty but it's very easy to ride quiet if I need to or open the throttle to give a little bark. Nothing offensive like an open pipe though!

I can only hear the intake through the pods when I'm standing beside it in the garage and then only when I twist the throttle initially... as soon as the rev's climb the exhaust drowns any intake noise...

I think the OP is waiting for his unfortunate request for info to lose its novelty, so he can hopefully go unnoticed when he asks about proper jetting with the loud pipe he just installed with pods

Yeah just go ahead and drill some holes in your airbox it will run just fine....

Even with proper jetting any extra intake howl gets overpowered by even stock pipes when you're on the throttle. They used to sell some little screened inserts that you could add to the airbox for more flow, don't know if they did much or not. I will tell you that when I ran an airbox it was best it stock configuration. With the snorkel on top of the box removed was okay but it was best with everything the way it came from the factory. Intake mods are best done as part of a package.

I bought a 78 750e last winter. When I put a new air filter and weatherstripping on the air box I saw some holes in the bottom of it. Maybe seven or eight of them, maybe 3/8 or so. I'm thinking now that that was the work of a po and they are not supposed to be there. The intake does make a lot of noise after 4000 rpm. Should I seal them? Thanks
