Exhaust pipe Gasket : How do you know if they are OK?

Me again the guy with a trillion questions.

How do you know if they are sealing properly?

And what are they made of?

    Thank you.

Simple answer - replace them since they are so cheap and break when you remove them.

Are you talking about the outside gaskets that you bolt onto the block? If so, I'm looking for a few of those! Where did you find them?

          There's some on E-bay, http://motors.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_...506.m270.l1313

or you could go to Boulevard Suzuki, item no. 2 on this fiche.

If you do E-bay, make sure they are the ones that fit your bike.

Do you feel any undue vibration or noise from your headers? Do you see any carbon build up? Are the flange bolts tight?
As far as what they're made of, they seem to be like a very fragile foil perhaps covering an asbestos ring (I'm guessing here). I see colored ones on E-bay so I have no clue what those are made of.
I re-used the ones on my GS1000 when I changed out my muffler, when I should've, should've, should've, replaced them! But I didn't have them on hand and didn't want to wait on an order to come in.

I reuse mine several times. Until they start making noise they are fine.
