I have got my GS 850 running now but when she;s just stood with rev's at between 1000/1500 she's making a popping sound from the exhaust is this something to do with the mixer screw for air/fuel. Cheers Paul

So it makes this popping sound at high idle and then goes away as revs increase? likely running too lean,so could be the idle mixture setting.1981 gs650L

somethings to check exhaust gaskets , mixure srew setting make sure your pilot jets are not blocked .if all checks out ok you might have to go biger on the pilot jet .are you runing pods .what do you have doneComment

Yes on the gaskets..if theres a leak or pinholes in the pipes they suck in fresh oxygenated air and the residual fuel gasses then exploded in the pipes and make popping sounds.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

What carbs have you got on there Paul - CVs or VMs? I seem to remember you did a carb rebuild - if so did you follow the appropriate tutorial to the letter and make sure everything was 100% cleaned?79 GS1000S
