What is the best exhaust coating

I am looking for the best exhaust coating I can spray on myself. I have used all types of high temp black paint, and they all just fade away. The last time I used 7 coats, that lasted about 18 months, and the head pipes are almost bare again. Is there ant type of coating that can be bought and applied without special equipment that will stay on.

not really...there are various options like ceramic, powder coating, chroming etc but none of them can really be done at home.
a good quality VHT paint and good prep. on the pipe is really all you can do at home.
18 months is quite a long time for a rattle can spray job on an exhaust and lets face it, its not really a major job to drop it off and give it another coat of paint.

I agree with Agemax. If you insist on doing it at home, VHT Flame Proof Ceramic Coating is probably your best bet. But don't expect it to last forever, it just won't happen.

LOL. I will refrain from commenting on that one, except to say: to each his own.

header wrap isnt a coating, its a good method of making your lovely bike look like it has a set of headers made from old stinky socks

LOL. It will make the pipe less hot, but unfortunately, over time, it will rust the pipe underneath. I have it on my turbo TransAm, but you cannot see it. On a bike, it is there for all the world to see.

Less hot on the outside of the wrap, but much hotter inside on the pipe itself.

It looks like someone's ass with TP stuck to it anyway.

But better than the dents in the tubes, that I could not get out, and cheaper than a new header that was dent free...

ohhhh well, as they say, to each his own.......

Gatekeeper, they sell an aerosol spray header wrap waterproof coating for that header wrap. Be sure and coat it periodically to keep moisture from reaching the header and making it rust.

Thanks KK,,,,it's exactly what I used and already sprayed 3 coats of the stuff on......even sprayed the rest of the pipe with the stuff, gave it a real nice finish....

Excellent. Good stuff, I use it on my TransAm. Just refresh it periodically. And tell your wife to stop pointing that thing at me, I am gun shy.

Por 15 has some high temp products.

But anything that you do at home likely is not going to last long. I have heard good things about this company, http://www.jet-hot.com/
