Should the 81 1000GL exhaust fit my 79 1000L without much issue? I would think so considering I have a set of regular G exhaust on her right now.

I think I just answered my own question reading down the forum a bit. Still, any input would be awesome.

      Hi,

I think you'll be OK. I've got an "L" exhaust on my GS850GT. It fit, no problem.

      Thank you for your indulgence,

Yes it will fit , may need to modify the rear mounting point, different foot pegs. Also the later 81 has a bolt from the exhaust to the oil pan- can do without it..

One more question. The 81 L pipes still separate in the middle right?

Any GS pipe that has a crossover will separate somehow.

Some bikes have a simple pipe with a clamp, others, like the 850, have an H-shaped chamber that connects the sides.
