Joe and Jim, I also used the DynoJet kit on my GPz, which has similar Mikuni CV carbs. However, if this is for his 78 GS, which came from the factory with VM carbs, I have been told the tuning did not require the DynoJet kit. Please correct me if I am wrong, since I never tried tuning VM carbs.

i have a 4-1...all i noticed was the bike sounded better...i didnt jet up right away because i had a baffle in it and i was broke..i ran about a month with stock jets...it wasnt to awful lean either, never smelled hot..

i went up 2 sizes on mains and shimmed my needles one stock shim...it puffs out a lil black when you crack it open and now i can run no baffle if i like..

you will learn here lots of these guys like and want stock bikes...i agree they run superb stock...but stock isnt for me, the gs sound good with a nice header i think..

stock airbox im a beliver...just cause the stories of pods so im all stock minus pipe engine wise

I had my baffle drop out on the road once. I have to say the sound is obnoxious without the baffle. Why would you want to subject people around you to that racket? Noise does not = power unless you ride a Harley. They calculate those in MPD (miles per decibel).
