    gs1000G tank

    Will the 1980 GS1000G tank fit the 1978 GS1000E?
1978 Gs1085 compliments of Popy Yosh, Bandit 1200 wheels and front end, VM33 Smoothbores, Yosh exhaust, braced frame, ported polished head
1983 Gs1100ESD, rebuild finished! Body paintwork happening winter 2017

I would rather trust my bike to a technician that reads the service manual than some backyardigan that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix things.

Not directly, but I seem to remember someone on here 'made' one fit. Might have been Salty Monk for his Mexico trip but don't quote me.

No, but I do believe a '80, '81 GS1100E will direct bolt on, and I "think" the same year model 750E will also.

.................hi guys,,, a few years ago i purchased of ebay.com usa ,,a 1980 gs1000 tank,,, it was a dark colour ,,and i think at the time the only 1 on there then ,,,so 10 days later it turns up nicely boxed ,,, and i go out in the backyard and open the box., and here is a fantastic gloss black with silver/gold flec and finished with clear it looked great ,,, so i go and drop it on my bike,,and the petcock tapped / fuel hole was in a different position ,,, it was directly over the top of the cv carbys.. ,,,so after alot of swearing i made a small plate and welding it on in the correct position for a 1980gs1000e ,,, it did work like a charm.. .,, but now i have a very nice 1981 gs1000s white/red tank no dints/rust ,, 1 tint scratch about 5mm long ,which i haven,t worried about regards oldgrumpy

You can make anything fit with a big enough hammer.

          Correct Steve.

My first GS was Suzy, my '78 1000C. My second bike was SuzyII, my '80/81 GS 1000G. I bought SuzyII for the tank, seat and body work, so I could change the look when I wanted to. Nothing swaps, the Gs frame rail and tank tunnel is narrower, and the seat hinges are in different places. The 81-82 750E which is the same tank as the 80-81 1100E tank, will bit perfectly on the '78-80 1000E.
I have one on my Cooley('80 1000S) as a temp. tank so it doesn't look so incomplete.

Can you post a picture of the 1000 with the 1100 tank on it?

            Please
