Needle\Float Valve replacement GS450L

Hi,

I had a leaking right float bowl on my 1980 GS450L with a BS34SS carb, so I took it off, after rebuilding it this past Spring. Check out the replacement needle valve for the 1980 GS450L this place called grimcycles on Ebay sent me.... ( the shorter one is OEM, the longer is the one sent to me)



FAIL!


and here's how bad it looks in the seat!

HELP , Where is the best place to get a proper needle valve?
Should I buy the seat and the needed valve just to be safe? The Haynes says I need a 2.0 seat, I assume that is OD, not ID.
The left bowl of the carb was not leaking at all when the bike was running, and a few minutes after it was stopped. The right bowl was dripping about one drop every 5 seconds for about 2 minutes after the bike was stopped. Let me know if you have any suggestions for a good source to get needle and\or seat.

Hi,

When it comes to carbs, it's always best to use OEM parts.

Yes, they are a little pricy at $42.34 for the set (one set required for each carb). But they work and you won't have to worry about it for another 20 years or so.

Hi Basscliff,

That is what I was afraid of.... the dreaded microfische diagram , as I realize that usually equals lots of $USD$ when that is part of the solution.
I was hoping for another source. I ran into the same thing at BikeBandit. Thanks, I at least have a part # now, 13370-44010

Have a look at Sudco's PDF of Mikuni parts.

If you can match it with a genuine Mikuni part, then you can probably get a pair of those cheaper than the genuine Suzuki items and in theory they should be exactly the same.

FWIW I'd probably just do what BassCliff says... although I'd go to Boulevard Suzuki or Powersports Plus for better pricing...

What I need here looks just like part 007-955 at http://www.sudco.com/Catalog37Digita...tml#/17/zoomed , - but they don't cross reference a 1980 GS450L in the catalog, or the OEM part 13370-44010.
It looks like you have to be a certified dealer to order from Sudco anyways.

I am waiting for a response from a nice guy at Z1 that I gave all my information, he says he can give me an estimate on the seat and needle in a couple of days.

Here's a tip from one of our former members Eric....



"All it takes is to twirl the needle tip in some fine steel wool for a few seconds and they can be as good as new!
As long as the spring plunger/float shock absorber is freed up with some brake cleaner and twirled around and
a Q-tip with metal polish on it is twirled around in the seat and then cleaned, O-ring around the seat replaced,
They are NEW!


Cost about a dollar per needle/seat assembly."

Bugger, that's a whole different catalog to last time I looked.

They used to have pictures of every single item so you could easily determine what suits what you're looking for. Matching OEM manufacturer items to Mikuni genuine part numbers can be difficult.

It's been too long since I've seen mine but the VM26/26 looks familiar...
