nope all good and correct fresh fuel filter to float height doesn't fit because if they were just running out of gas putting the choke on wouldn't fix the issue nothing is pinched cracked or dry rotted

carbs were stripped and cleaned three times i highly doubt there is anything left in them

Weak spark at plug(s) or erratic firing.Check coil leads, condition of insulation and spark plug caps.Examine all spark plugs and note their condition and refer to a plug reading chart for more info. Not much background/history info. provided on your machine by you.Makes it difficult to assist, like a guessing session.Sorry I couldn't help very much.

cant be spark it wouldn't change with rpm if spark was weak it would be weak all the time not just at 5000 and above rpm

Some problems show up where they do.Other members suggested to do some research etc.You will solve issue when you do.

it could be plugs if they are the wrong type, or worn and tired.Originally posted by countrycummins99 View Postcarbs were stripped and cleaned three times i highly doubt there is anything left in them

you say you have cleaned the carbs but HOW? have you dipped them overnight or just squirted carb cleaner in there and blown them out?

the latter will NOT clean them properly.

are you setting the float heights correctly?1978 GS1085.

 well

i will remove the fuel filter then the plugs are brand new manufactures spec gaped correctly and putting the choke on wouldn't fix the spark issue so i doubt its spark plugs. i am going to check what jets are in it tonight before i re-jet it and make it one solid fuel line from the petcock down to the carb instead of having the filter. alos the jets that are currently in it our plastic that seems a little odd?

The ignitors for that model GS are not very reliable. Not sure if that's the problem but maybe. The advance curve is built into the ignitor so no substitutions.Ed

Plastic jets????? The slides look like a teflon plastic. The jet needles are snapped into a plastic cross shaped affair. But aint no plastic I can see int he jets.Originally posted by countrycummins99 View Posti will remove the fuel filter then the plugs are brand new manufactures spec gaped correctly and putting the choke on wouldn't fix the spark issue so i doubt its spark plugs. i am going to check what jets are in it tonight before i re-jet it and make it one solid fuel line from the petcock down to the carb instead of having the filter. alos the jets that are currently in it our plastic that seems a little odd?

 ok first

rule out the spark plugs its not the plugs i promise. Next if you are going down the road and you hit 5000 rpm with the choke all the way off it starts breaking up like its starving for fuel. at that point if you put the choke back on it richens the mixture by restricting the air flow and cures the breaking up
