    choke plunger

Been searching, but not doing so well. I have a 79 GS-L 550, got the bike with the carbs out, supposedly rebuilt. One of the choke plungers was stuck, couldn't work it free. Ended out pulling the assembly apart, got it unstuck, put back together, worked fine. Got the carbs back in the bike, when trying to hook up the throttle cable, the end of that plunger snapped off. I guess it got weakened when trying to free it. Are all Mikuni choke plungers the same?

Maybe I'm looking at this all wrong. Is there a place online to buy parts, where I just put in the year make model and it tells me what it needs? I'm new to bikes, this is my first. Been working on cars my whole life.

Welcome to the site. Basscliff will be along later with the official welcome but try looking at the parts fiche at a few of these sites:

    www.gssuzuki.com
    www.boulevardsuzuki.com
www.alpha-sports.com/suzuki_parts.htm (this will be an extremely expensive site but they have a great fiche).
www.z1enterprises.com (may need to call them as they don't list everything on their site)

G&S and Boulevard have perhaps the best prices overall but Z1's customer service is second to none. Shop around.

As far as the carbs being rebuilt, don't trust the PO on that. On Basscliff's site http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff (you'll get the official welcome later like I said), you'll find a couple of carb rebuilding tutorials. Read through them and follow them to the letter - not doing it will cost you more trouble later.

Thanks! Z1 didn't seem to have it listed, filled out their new part request form.

The PO is a friend of mine, I'll talk to him and figure out exactly what he did to 'rebuild' the carbs. I've been using bikecliffs site, it's helped out a lot so far.
