What's up with the throttle?
After Carb Rebuild

Aaaah I saw that mock up and didn't even think of it... even though I know full well that the starter solenoid is grounded via the mounting bolts!

The cable is fine. It was too lean, so I screwed my screws out. I think they're somewhere around 3 - 3.5 turns out right now. Before, when I revved, it would stick. After tinkering, it'll go back down to idle now. But it's slower going down in the 1 to 2000 rpm range.
During my rebuild, I used all new o-rings, new carb boot o-rings. Main jet is a 142.5. I ordered a 45 pilot jet, but didn't put it in because of advice from other members. Now, I'm seeing a few places on the net mentioning those sizes. Did a vacuum test with starter fluid and that was fine. Gonna tinker with it today. If I can't get it tuned in, I'll post a video. Wish I had a good example video of someone with my setup so I can compare sounds.Comment

I don't have good cameras for sound and the only videos I have are all ride videos, so I don't think that will help you unfortunately.
Have you been through George's mixture screw adjustment yet?

That may help...Comment

Just swapped the stock pilot jet for the 45 I bought, and what a difference. Night and day. Went from lean to rich. It isn't getting stuck in the 2000 to 3000 range now, which makes sense. The pilot handles the beginning 1/3 of the throttle. It's at least at a point right now where I can leave it be until I get it on the road to really dial it in.Comment

What model pilot is the 45? I can't get around the fact I went from stock 17.5 to 22.5 and it was waaaaaaaaaaaaay too rich, so I'm think the 45 must be a different series of pilot?
How warm have you gotten the engine? It will get richer as it warms up.
I'm curious to see if it gets too rich when warm... not questioning your results, I'm just confused

I've ran it for 5 to 10 minutes a few times. What model pilot is the 45? I can't get around the fact I went from stock 17.5 to 22.5 and it was waaaaaaaaaaaaay too rich, so I'm think the 45 must be a different series of pilot?

Interesting... they look different to the VM22/210's I used.
Have you compared them side by side with your stock ones?Comment

Yes, the originals I had were thinner and had no holes down the side. Here they are.

Now I'm getting occasional backfire or afterfire on deceleration. Not sure which. Although that could be the exhaust, which I'm going to replace at some point anyway. The rest of the tuning I'll be doing once she's roadworthy.Comment

Cool... the VM22/210's are exactly the same shape/size as the stock ones, but have bleed holes down the side like the 45's you got... at least now I know I'm not going insane
I get popping on decel and I'm pretty sure it's because it's rich.
Because of my shortened slide springs, I suspect it's not closing the slides as quickly when I close the throttle, allowing extra fuel in which pops on decel.
That's all theory though, no proof...Comment
