    rubber plugs in carb?

restoring a 1980 gs 750L. is there a reason all four carbs have a rubber plug in the small jet in bowl. what purpose does this serve? wouldn't that block the flow?

It block the flow of gas directly from the bowl. The pilot circuit draws fuel differently in CVs than in VMs..thus if the plugs are not there, they will flood the cylinders with raw gas and the bike wont run. They must be snuggly held in by the bowl too, so if they are hard and theres a circle imprinted in the flat tops I would replace them.

I should have said that they don't drink gas directly from the bowls from the bottom like VMs do....just to clarify a bit.

Thanks, Chuck. I didn't know what those plugs were for either.
