Aftermarket mufflers
Are there aftermarket mufflers out there that do not require rejetting? Im looking to change the stock mufflers, for looks, but I do not want to change the factory setup if I don't have to. I have a 81 GS550L.Tags: None -

Most aftermarket mufflers will not require rejetting if you leave the stock airbox in place, especially if you leave the baffles in place. -

Thanks. Good to know. What about shortening the pipes a little? Will that affect the air flow? My gut tells me it doesn't matter but I don't have much experience.Comment

Shortening the pipes will change the air flow but not from a volume standpoint. It will change the powerband of the engine, shifting the torque curve higher into the RPM range. How much is hard to tell. I would leave the stock length unless you are building a racer or drag bike. The proper length was calcualted for street use by folks a lot smarter than me.Comment
