New Toy .. The Beast. Need RS36 help.

Anywho, The bike comes to me with RS36 carbs, Webb cams, Pods, STUPID-LOUD Kerker, and a big bore kit. ( unknown specifics )

She starts easy, puts out clouds of black smoke at idle, exhaust burns my eyes, and at 8000 rpm it seems to run out of fuel. ( there is a filter, and a "loop" of fuel line installed, I suspect this is letting the bowls dry up under high rpm )

So here's my question:
1.) Is there a tutorial on setting up these carbs ? I checked the most-awesome BassCliff site... I didn't see anything.

2.) Should I replace the Kerker baffler with the medium or Quiet baffle? Seems I have the large comp. It is crazy-loud. I must change it or neighbors will kill me.

Note: I will check/adjust vales before anything else, just waiting for +40 temps in un-heated garage.

Get in touch with Tripivot. He did a lot of modifying on the 1000 motor and is real good with RS jetting... Make sure you know what you have as far as pilot,mains and where your needle clip is set...

Sudco will be an excellent source of Mikuni RS information.

My 2 cents . . . I have a GS1000/1100 2V with Wiseco 73.5 mm, S-1 cams, Supertrapp but I choose RS34 which really work well on the street. Although RS36 are the ticket for GS1100E 4V they are probably a bit big for a stockish 1000/1100 2V. I can find the main jet size if needed

Koni. Front has Progressive springs.

So I finally got the valves done, carbs off, and found the floats at 19mm. more or less.
they were visibly not at the same height.
Should I be checking the float height with the carbs completely inverted, per the book, or lean them to the side so the float valve -just- touches? ???
(I'm not sure why I'm convinced "leaning" is proper method... maybe from too many dirtbikes along the way ?)
seems to be more than 1 mm difference between the 2 techniques.

If you're measuring them then inverted. The best and most accurate method is with a clear hose but not sure if that works for the type of carbs you have. Glad to see you're making some progress on the bike. Hey, how do you find those Koni shocks?

The rear wheel hops under braking !!!

Yes. The rear shocks are worthless, the front brakes arent' good enough.
the engine still gets -really- hot, the pipe is still STUPID loud, and after last Friday, I rode it twice since I bought it.

and at just the right rpm, it pulls hard enough to scare me.
