    K & n

Does anybody know which K&N (or equivalent) filters will fit the 34 mm Mikuni CV carbs on my '82 1100e? Dealership found something like "'80 to '83 1100 except E" in their parts search. And are they supposed to cost more than $50 each?

Also, what would be the proper rejetting kit? I'm planning on installing the filters myself (stop giggling, guys), but leaving the jetting to the shop.

Bike has a V&H megaphone that "needs repacking" (I won't do that) and the airbox is missing it's lid. As far as I can tell, she runs near perfect - starts quickly (with full choke) and redlines the first three gears smoothly. Also, the connection between the front and rear airbox sections is now compromised, due to my (unsuccessful) attempt a few nights ago to access the battery.

I started her an hour ago, and she seemed to need the "prime" feature on the petcock. One substantial backfire before it started. Before that, it was two weeks since I started her. Any experience on how long these big beauties sit before they need "prime" to get going again?

For my application, what exactly would the difference be between a "K & N High Performance Air Intake Kit" and the "K & N Universal Clamp-On Air Filters"?

Not sure which K&N filters fit, bit I have seen 1100Es with them on it. I would also look at the APE offering. Similar quality but less expensive.
For jetting you want the DynoJet Stage 3 kit.

I'm trying to figure out what the difference between K&N's RC-0984 "Universal Chrome Filter" (looks like four for $166) and their SU-1250 "Replacement Air Filter" ($58 for one) is.

I just bought a set of APE filters for my Katana1100 half the price of KN filters, they look good and comparable as we'll.

Agreed. I have the APEs on my 1100E. They work fine and more beer is always good.

The prices I mentioned were from the web, not my dealer. He couldn't find anything for my '82 1100e.

By the way, the APEs seem to be just as expensive ($58).

Batfaam, what year is your 1100e? Do you know the exact model numbers of the APEs that fit it?

Sorry I keep saying 1100e so often. I'm just tickled to finally own one, after I ate their dust so many times in the '80s aboard my KAW Z1!

I'm biased let me make that clear from the start. Grew up with K&N's on all my and my brothers crossers. Love um. Do a lovely silicon laced over boot as well. Pricey? Yep, but quality don't come cheap.

K&N's flow lots of air because they are crappy air filters. Way more dirt gets through to the engine than with a good quality paper filter. I've used them as well over the years, but can't say I'm impressed overall.
