If it has a single mount at the rear I agree. Almost certain it does though.

'80 750E had that one too. Where is the petcock located? That will determine the year.

Single mount at the rear. Petcock is on left side.

OK in that case I believe you will have to use the dread 1980 leverless petcock. Not absloutely sure but I think the bolt spacing only fits those.

You say dread 1980 leverless petcock.. should I be concerned? It indeed has a petcock on the tank as of now.

Upon further inspection the valve does NOT move.

                          Well, there is your answer.

Not sure another style will fit as mentioned, they differ in bolt spacing.
You may be able to make a adapter plate.

From what I've read the dreaded petcock doesnt have a valve to turn, the fuel is commanded by vaccuum. Mine has a valven assuming its not the "dreaded" 1980 valve. Ill just tear it apart and try to get working. The bolt spacing seems to be the same as the one on my 78 tank.

Post pics of the device...and if you want a new petcock that will fit on a 78 tank measure the center to center on the bolt holes..should be 40MM. If it is, then the 77 and 78 750 petcocks are the exact same thing as stock except the fuel and vac nipples face different direction...but it will bolt right up.

And its about 1/3 the price of a 78 1000 petcock!!
