exhaust clamp bolt replacement

noticed a wonky bolt on one of the exhaust clamps. i want to take the clamps off and soak them in rust remover, then paint with VHT or something similar.

found the part numbers for the bolts and washers here:

should i replace the gaskets too for good measure?

Do yourself a favor and replace the bolts with studs and nuts, and yes replace the gaskets while you are at it.

growler, the reason hjfisk says replace the bolts with studs is that the bolts will eventually strip out the threads in the head, which is not a good thing. Put the studs in there and the problem goes away because they stay put. Just a poor initial design by Suzuki that is easily remedied.

forgive my ignorance here. could you direct me to a link for appropriate studs/nuts? or are they something i can pick up at a hardware store? i'm happy to replace them, just want to buy the correct things. thanks!

You should be able to get them through any auto parts stores, they are 8mm and should be 45mm-50mm long. Also a Fastenal if you have one local. Could also order them through McMaster-Carr

I personally don't and have not had a problem. I have heard or read of others using locktite when they did. I also was not aware that there is a locktite that will take the heat of an exhaust stud. I do however use a brass nut .

Just a couple of notes, growler. Brass nuts are better because if they get frozen on the stud they will strip out rather than the steel stud. Also, when you go to install them, put two of the brass nuts on the stud and tighten them to each other. They will lock together and allow you to use the outer nut to tighten down the stud.
