    GS550L Idle Screw Wont go In?

    Like the title says! Cant get it to go in haha! Be easy on me, I dont know if theres a trick to it or if im doing something wrong! But the idle screw is backed all the way out and it actually fell out on my garage floor. Tried to screw it back in but it keeps popping out. Any tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated! its a 1980 GS550L, with Mikuni Carbs. thanks!

    The idle mix screw, right? The one down in the hole? It has a spring underneath it. Can you take a flashlight and look down in the hole and see if the threads are intact?

      no its the idle adjust screw in this pic that im posting. its on the bottom of the carbs.

        Seen them backed out so far they aren't affecting the idle, but never seen one fall out! Good luck.

          On mine, the rod just goes into a threaded hole. Guess your threads are stripped.

            Most likely you are just missing the hole. You might want to go try again.

            If you backed out the knob in an attempt to drop the idle, but it had no effect. Then most likely you have air leaks in the intake track.

              Yeah that happened to me too! It can be a real pain to get it to thread back in because the threads are very fine. The knob attaches to a small bracket that screws to the bracket that gangs all the carbs together (i hope that makes sense?) You can take that off and screw the knob back in it and mount the whole thing back on the carb rack. Good luck! Be careful to not cross thread it or you will really have a problem.
