Pilot Air Screw stuck

I am rebuilding the carbs on my 81 450, I have them completely torn down except for pulling the Pilot air screw out. I have already removed the Aluminum Cap and they tread in and out just fine. but i think the O-Ring is retaining it in the hole.

any tips on getting this little bugger out? its the same on both of them. I have tried (gently) beating the carb body to try and shake it loose and i don't seem to have anything small enough to get under the head to try and fish it out.

also looking at Z1 for a replacement (I drilled into one of the heads just a little bit, still functions fine but would like to have one that the head is rock solid on)

would this one work? i had found a chart that it seems the 1100's had the same Jets and carbs on it but i'm not positive.

Also i would like to replace the float bowel gaskets, it seems Z1 does not list the 450 much, so i'm hoping the carbs are the same as the 1100 so i can get the gaskets I want.

Let's bump this up! your mixture screw is a little different than my bs-32, but can you blow air into hole where this screw enters carb throat? and try to force it back?
I imagine the float bowl gaskets are interchangeable on any bs-34 carb- internal parts are different though. Someone else will know

Thanks Tom, I tried blasting air into the small hole on the ID of the carb bore (butterfly side) at 100 PSI thinking it would pop right out, but no go. I'm not exactly sure what port is the one that feeds this screw as this is my first time dealing with carbs at all (Old EFI guy with Mazda RX-7s)

theres an old mechanic at Napa i'm going to go check with him and see if i can get a split flat head screwdriver to maybe get this ****er out.

Please if anyone has any ideas post them up. everything has been dipped and cleaned now this is holding me up from riding the bike.

I used two very small jeweller's flat blade screw drivers and gently "walked" it out of the hole.

You're right that it's the O ring in there that's holding it in place.

Be very careful not to lose the spring when it comes out!

Thanks Pete i actually was just walking over to tell everyone i got the damn things out. when i posted this it was before i dipped the carb bodies, i pulled them out after my last reply to have another go at them. it seems there was also some heavy deposit's in there holding it in so the dip helped.

a bit of compressed air into the port and (this time) they came out with just a little working.

hopefully this thread will help someone in the future.
