78 GS750 Fuel mixture screws broken. ALL FOUR!!!

Hey all,


As the title states, all four tips are broken off the fuel mixture screws. I do not know how anyone managed to do all four. I have purchased new screws, but I am having a heck of a time getting the old tips out. What have you done or what suggestions do you have for elucidating this issue? All comments and suggestions are much appreciated.

So you got the mixture screws out and now need to poke tips off to get them out of carb bores...... or ?

warm the carbs up and poke the broken tips back down through with a pin

Yes, I do have the screws out, but the tips are still broken inside of the carburetor. I need to find a way to get the tips out of the carb body. I put some carb cleaner where the screws come out and noticed the cleaner comes out of a small just underneath the slide.

Here is a picture of the screws. There are only three in the picture, but the fourth looks the same.

Did you get the tips out yet using Hoomgar's method?

BTW, the tips typically get wedges in there when people screw them in too hard before opening them back up. Make sure all the old white paint is removed, and then don't screw them in too hard when bottoming them.

Thank you for posting that link. I did look there and it seems like a great option. I am trying to avoid taking the carburetor apart, but I will do so if other remedies fail.

I have not used Hoomgar's method. It seems to be the method of choice. I will have to get a scratch awl or some other tool before I can continue. I am hesitant to take the carbs completely apart, but will use this method if all else fails.

You MUST take the carbs all apart to properly clean them. Short cuts are long cuts when it comes to cleaning carbs. Plus, the interconnect O-rings are likely hard as a rock and the only way to change them is to ungang the carbs.
