    Idle goes up, seems to accelerate itself...

    Hi everyone,

    thanks to your helps,

    My GS 1100 from 1982 is strange...

    i buy it with not original exhaust and without air filter, so it was dificult to adjust the carbs...

    first i check the valves, and after so many hours i am pretty good in clearances, i think...

    second i cleaned the carbs like three times...

    i changed the jets to see what could be better, and i think i find the right arrangements.

    i have the mixture out by 2 "rounds" (sorry for my english)
    without air filter (i dont have one) bigger jets than oem

    and the cold start is really hard, the battery died before
    and the idle goes up like it accelerate by itself...

    i tryed to change the misture screw and with more rounds out, it seems to be better, but sitll doing it

    i checked for air leaks and seems to be good, i did it many times to be sure

    i am thinking about pilot jets bigger, could it be?

          Have you changed the o-rings on the intake tubes? They are the tubes between the carburetors and the engine. You have to remove the carbs, then remove the tubes, you will see the o-rings on the surface that meets with the cylinder head.

          Please do not change a bunch of things to make up for the lack of an air filter, just get an air filter and maintain your stock jetting. It will be much better.

              The idle will climb as it warms up, you have to reduce the choke as it warms up to keep it in the 1000-2000 rpm range. If the idle is raising on its own after it's warm and the choke is off then you may have a vacuum leak, likely the o-rings behind the intake boots (between carbs and engine). If the idle is just set too high, there should be a screw on the carbs to adjust it down. Don't know if you've changed the pilot jet, but it will be running way lean with stock pilots and no air box.                       Mine does the same thing. It starts of over 100 rpm then gets upto about 4000rpm. I play with it to knock it down, but it always goes back up... before this happened I raised the fuel levels in the bowl. Level is almost to the top of the bowl at front and at the washer in the rear of the bowl
