Look what I found in my gas tank

I have to clean up the tank because the sealant inside is peeling off, and I found this weird foam block in there.

Any idea what it might have been, besides something that accidentally fell in?

I have seen foam used as a baffle/anti-slosh in gas tanks, mostly race bikes, ATV or jet ski that makes sudden turns or stops.
Certainly looked different than your piece but who knows?
