Lever less Petcock

I have an 81 1100 with a lever-less petcock. I don't know if the tank is original - it may not be. It has 2 positions: prime and On, and it has to be turned with a screwdriver. It also has bolt centers of approx 51mm (2"). Is there a source for these somewhere? Everything I've fond so far is 44mm.

It sounds like you have a different tank. Post a picture please?

I count eight dents in the tank, so it's been tossed around. The side covers came from a 750.
Suzukipartshouse already sent me the wrong size o-ring - model x is too small. I need to call them, or just go to my local Suzuki dealer.
I'm having a real hard time uploading photos from an old mac, and the my iphone doesn't seem to work either.

That's not your typical leverless Suzuki petcock. Almost looks like a regular petcock with the handle chopped off.

It looks like it has the diaphragm on the back, maybe it has a vacuum tube point there too?

It's not like a suzuki tap I'm familiar with.

Looks like it may be from an approx. '84 GSX-R. It has the 50mm spacing, which is why I used a v. similar tap on my GS1000 with an ST (1980) fuel tank.
Have now ditched it for a Pingel item, after making up an adaptor plate. All good now, and I actually have a 'Reserve' function!

See, I did not know about 50mm spacing, georgefixs, or Pingel. Based on the application notes on that georgefixs page, I'm guessing now that my 81 has a tank from a 1980. Does anybody know if that one from http://www.georgefixs.com/1980-gs550...s1100-petcock/ is decent quality? It seems awfully cheap to be OEM.

Here's the backside. One of the inlet ports is permanently blocked by the factory.

Given that you don't know the origin of your tap, and it's also seen better days, it is probably time to stump up for a new one.

Have a good look at the Pingel website - their taps give you On/Off/Reserve functionality, but at the loss of vacuum shut-off (if that bothers you at all).

The alternative is the georgefixs.com route. At that price it won't be OEM, but it is made in Japan and appears to be of good quality. I know, I just bought one. What I can't say is whether the OEM overhaul kits would work on the aftermarket tap.

I've been using a petcock from georgefix for 4 years with no problem. I'd guess that it's made in same jap factory as the suzuki oem units.

I'll probably go the georgefix route. At least it's not Chinese!

I bought one of those Georgfix petcocks and the check valve in the back cover failed in short order so Prime didn't work. The petcock looks identical to the OEM Suzuki petcock but I'm not so sure about the inside parts. I wound up buying an OEM petcock as a replacement and it's been okay.
