Dynojet needles in VM29 smoothbores

About to fit my 29mm smoothbores to my GS1000, they are fitted with velocity stacks and filter socks. Just wondering as i will be taking off my VM28's that are fitted with Dynojet needles, whether its worth fitting the needles to the 29's or are they not nessecary on the smoothbores?

Ok thanks, will try them stock needles.Here is what they look like after some TLC.

get them dialed in and they will perform as well as they look

you will enjoy it when they are set up right they are nice carbs

Socks on or off they look great.
Black paint or did you get them powder-coated?

They are painted with Gunkote (Cerakote). I am totally against painting carbs personally but they were done by the PO and it is actually quite a nice job. Hopefully it will last, if not they will be stripped and restored back to bare metal, like they should be!

Personally I'm not keen on those foam socks. I built an escort rally car engine years ago, and at 7000 revs it was sucking them in on rolling road. I fitted K+N filters and it gave 205 bhp@8000 at wheels, not bad for a 8v pinto ��. If you have mesh on bellmouths that would do.

I am going to run the stacks with mesh on them anyway, i guessed the socks would get sucked in without any support. I would not run stacks on the road with out proper filters, even mesh would allow in too much road rubbish!

I would agree with that, hope they tune nice. You could sell tour 28s they bring fair money.

i got 3 sets of 28's, and i am keeping all 3 of them!

fitted the 29's today, below 3k they are lumpy as hell but above that it takes off like a scolded monkey!
carbs have been synched, i think i need to drop the pilots down a size, they are 20's in there.
